Urohi Community appeals to the Govt for fair Infrastructural Development in the Area.

Onogie of Urohi Community

Urohi People are the inhabitants of Urohi Community, Esan West LG; Edo Central Senatorial District of Edo State, Nigeria, rule by an Onogie (Monarchical King), the Community is known for agricultural produces like rice, pineapple, yam, cassava, orange, mango and guava, hence tagged “The Food Basket of Edo State”. Craft works with wares such as carving, hand-woven clothes, ebony rings, bowls, ash-trays, flower pots and bronze objects together with the art of basket-making which are veritable works of art like shopping baskets, waste paper baskets and farmer’s wicker baskets are major skills found among Urohi People. Urohi Community holds the highest community in Esan Land that harbors Farm Settlers and community inter-marriages record. It is visible and proven.

"Urohi Community has common boundaries with Ekpoma on the North, Ujiogba on the South-East both in the Esan West LG, and Uhi/Ugieghudu on the South, Uhumwode LG."

Urohi citizens are marginalised from the  state political structure in particular and the country in general and  if the trend is not checked, the capacity for a rapid political and infrastructural development in the kingdom will be slow. Urohi citizens are educated and creative enough to get  appointments as senior Governmental aides, members of board of state establishment and parastatals if fair representation is pronounced in our democracy.

Appeals have been made several times to the Government to come to their aid but hinted a near rock accident, hence this appeal once again. The NDDC road project that was awarded years ago which would have link the Community to the wider World and audience has suffered a near 100% NEGLECT for too long by the Contractors and the Authority concerned. Your investigation and report are good as ours!

There are daily reports of Federal/State roads and projects going on in Esan land and Edo State these days and yet, no single attention or report towards UROHI COMMUNITY in Esan West LG  is recorded so far, yet, Urohi is the food basket of Esan West and contributes massively to the local, state and national gross domestic product.  Urohi ranks among the fifth highest producers of pineapple, timber, yam and cassava in Nigeria, yet no one processing plant is available.

The Edo State Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Programme should focus on the comparative advantage of Urohi to raw materials for production, by establishing SME plants in the kingdom. The over 30,000 inhabitants of Urohi have no access to clean and potable water, apart from the one sited in Eguare which is an unimaginable distance to more than 70 per cent of the citizens;  the Government should be mindful of the fact that to whom much is given, much is expected.
The comunity further called for the extension of the “Red Roof” project syndicated by the United Nations, UNICEF Assisted Projects, European Union Assisted Projects, UNESCO, World Bank, National Capital Development Fund assisted projects, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises support programmes and other international non-governmental agencies meant for rural areas to be extended to Urohi community.

“So much has been said of the teeming rural communities in Nigeria today that have benefited immensely from international agencies and donors, but Urohi Kingdom has suffered so much neglect. Urohi is the food basket of Esan West and contributes massively to the local, state and national gross domestic product.  Urohi ranks among the fifth highest producers of pineapple, timber, yam and cassava in Nigeria, yet not one processing plant is available,” (Barr. Adaghe)

The comunity expresses its gratitude to His Royal Highness Zaki Aidenojie I, the Onogie of Urohi, Hon. Patrick Ikhariale and other notable personalities in the community for their achievements so far.

To God Be The Glory!
